University Campus

Being approved by UGC and the Government on 14 March 2012, Hamdard University Bangladesh started its academic programs in a rented building on 29 November 2012. Till 2015, the University operated its academic programs in that building situated in Newtown, Sonargaon (Narayanganj). But when it became inadequate for accommodating the usual flow of students, Hamdard Foundation built a two-storied metal-structured (prefabricated) premise measuring about 50,000 square feet on its own land in Gazaria, Munshiganj. Simultaneously, HUB has built a Cafeteria measuring 4000 square feet on the southern fringe of the main building.

It is worth to mention here that much earlier, the Master Plan of HUB-campus was prepared through an open-design competition and all components of the campus are planned for phase-wise construction. Assuming the mega-construction may take several years, the prefabricated structure was built in 2015-2016. In December 2016, the University was shifted from the old/ temporary to new/ permanent campus. Among others, the campus is going to house an International Research Center for Natural Medicine, an International Convention Center, a Scholar House, an Indoor Sports Complex/ Gym, and other required facilities.

As of now (2017) all activities of HUB are operational in this new premise. Meeting the emergent needs, the University is planning to start the phase-wise construction of the main campus shortly as per the Master Plan. In this regard, Hamdard visualizes a world class university with the latest research facilities and logistics for higher education and thus implement its slogan ‘In Pursuit of Knowledge.’

The campus of Hamdard University Bangladesh is so far the largest one among the existing private universities in Bangladesh. It is located in the Hamdard City of Science, Education and Culture (aka/ Hamdard Nagar—newly named) in a hollow village of Gazaria, Munshiganj—just across the Meghna Bridge—by the western side of the Dhaka-Chittagong highway. It is about 30 KM from the capital Dhaka. Currently, the two-storied building (eastern and western wings) is serving the purpose of all academic and administrative needs of the University. It is accommodating all four faculties: Arts and Social Sciences, Business Administration, Science, Engineering and Technology, and Unani and Ayurvedic Medicine.
The campus is naturally bounded by the river Phuldi on the western fringe. It presents an enchanting landscape far from the ‘hub-bub’ of the capital Dhaka. The landscape of the campus depicts a panoramic view of the surroundings.  Overall, the campus offers modern facilities such as commuting bus service for students and faculty members, separate hostels for boys and girls (now off-campus but very soon they will be on-campus), a subsidized cafeteria and other logistic supports. A similar three-storied building measuring approximately 45,000 square feet is near completion now which will house the Faculty of Unani and Ayurvedic Medicine with a 100-bed hospital in it. The 2nd floor of the building is reserved for girls-hostel accommodating nearly 300 students. We are expecting to make this building operational by end of-2017. To solve the accommodation of male-students, another 300-seat boys-hostel is being planned and very soon the construction is going to start.
